When We Was Young (WWWY) is a Toronto indie rock band blending roots-rock grit, Canadiana influences and alternative rock energy into songs about bad decisions, good intentions and the stories that connect us. Since 2009, the band has built a loyal following through honest songwriting, memorable melodies and dynamic live performances. Now performing as a five-piece, WWWY continues to evolve while staying true to the heartfelt storytelling and relatable spirit that have defined the band from the beginning.
“When we was Young was the opening act this evening. It has been 10 years since they last graced the Horseshoe stage. I guess we can rename the band, When we are grown up. Yes they are older, but they retain that youthful energy of being a band filled with Juvenescence.”
By the second song, the band was “hitting a good groove” — a blend of light rock and country undertones that got feet moving all night, including one front-row fan who danced the entire set.
The review closes with kudos for WWWY's reimagined covers of EMF's “Unbelievable” and the Beastie Boys' “Sabotage”: “This band really redefined these songs… they were a great choice to open the show.”
